pure

also, even

adverb POO-reh Common

Origin: From Latin pure (purely, simply).

Also means

feel free to, go ahead

Usage Note

Pure is a versatile particle. As an adverb it means 'also' or 'even': viene pure lui ('he is coming too'). In polite invitations it signals permission: accomodati pure ('please, go ahead and sit down'), dimmi pure ('feel free to tell me'). It also appears in concessive constructions: pur essendo stanco, ha lavorato ('even though tired, he worked'). Do not confuse with però ('however').

Examples

"Siediti pure, non fare complimenti."

Natural Translation

Please sit down, don't stand on ceremony.

Literal Translation

Sit-yourself go-ahead, don't make compliments.
