psicologia
psychology
noun psee-koh-loh-JEE-ah Less Common
Origin: Greek psyche (soul) + logos (study)
Usage Note
Psicologia refers both to the academic discipline and to a person's psychological make-up: avere una buona psicologia ('to have good psychological insight'). The 'ps-' cluster is pronounced fully in Italian (psee-), unlike English where the 'p' is silent — a common mispronunciation trap. The adjective is psicologico and the practitioner psicologo (m) / psicologa (f).
Examples
"Studia psicologia per capire il comportamento umano."
Natural Translation
She studies psychology to understand human behaviour.
