Usage Note
Piantare means both to plant seeds/trees and, colloquially, to abandon or dump someone: mi ha piantato = 'she dumped me'. The imperative piantala! means 'cut it out!' or 'stop it!'. It takes avere as auxiliary. The combination piantare in asso (to leave someone in the lurch) is a fixed idiom.
