Periodo primarily means a span of time (un lungo periodo, a long period) but in grammar it also means a complex sentence or clause group. Stress falls on the second syllable: pe-RÌ-o-do. Do not confuse with periodo in rhetoric, which refers to a balanced, periodic sentence structure.
