Usage Note
Pentametro is a verse line of five metrical feet, central to classical Latin poetry in the elegiac couplet (distico elegiaco), where a hexameter is paired with a pentametro. In Italian prosody, the term is used both for classical imitations and for analysis of Latin verse; it rarely appears in purely Italian syllabic poetry.
