partecipato
state-owned
adjective par-teh-chee-PAH-toh Rare
Origin: From partecipare (to participate) + -ato (past participial suffix).
Also means
partly state-owned
Usage Note
Partecipato in financial and administrative Italian almost always appears in the phrase azienda/società partecipata, meaning a company in which the state or a public body holds a shareholding. It does NOT simply mean 'participated in'; that would be a cui si è partecipato. The feminine form partecipata is used as a standalone noun: le partecipate pubbliche (publicly held companies).
Examples
"La società è una partecipata del comune."
Natural Translation
The company is a municipally owned enterprise.
