Usage Note

Monsignore is an honorific title for certain Catholic prelates below the rank of bishop, used both as a direct address and before a name: Monsignore Rossi. The abbreviated form is Mons. In direct address the final -e is often dropped: Monsignor Bianchi. It is always masculine.
