Usage Note
Legislatore refers to the body or person that makes laws. In Italian legal texts il legislatore is often used impersonally to mean 'the law' or 'Parliament's intent' (il legislatore ha previsto che… = the law provides that…). The feminine form is legislatrice, though the masculine is used generically. Not to be confused with legislativo (legislative, the adjective).
