Usage Note
Legge is feminine — la legge, le leggi. It can refer to a specific enacted law (approvare una legge, to pass a law) or to law as an institution (rispettare la legge, to respect the law). Be careful not to confuse legge (law) with the third-person singular of leggere (to read): lui legge un libro (he reads a book) — same spelling, different stress and context.
Examples
"La legge è uguale per tutti."
Natural Translation
The law is equal for everyone.
