Usage Note
Iodio is the chemical element (symbol I, atomic number 53). In everyday Italian it is associated with tintura di iodio (iodine tincture/antiseptic) and with sale iodato (iodised salt). The word is masculine: lo iodio (note the use of lo before the vowel cluster).
