Also means
failing grade
Usage Note
Insufficienza covers both a general shortfall (an insufficienza di prove, insufficiency of evidence) and, in the Italian school system, a failing mark — any grade below sei (6) on the 1–10 scale. A student who fails a subject is said to have preso un'insufficienza. The adjective insufficiente behaves the same way.
Examples
"Ha ricevuto un'insufficienza in matematica."
Natural Translation
She received a failing grade in mathematics.
