Usage Note
Accademia refers to an academy of arts, sciences, or learning — most famously the Accademia della Crusca (guardian of the Italian language) and the Accademia di Belle Arti. The plural is accademie. The derived adjective accademico can also mean 'purely theoretical' (a 'moot point' in English).
