indolore

painless

adjective een-doh-LOH-reh Rare

Origin: From Latin in- (not) + dolor (pain).

Usage Note

Indolore is an invariable adjective — the same form is used for masculine and feminine, singular and plural: un intervento indolore, una procedura indolore, trattamenti indolori. It is common in medical and cosmetic contexts. Compare doloroso (painful), its antonym. The '-e' ending covers both genders in the singular; the plural adds '-i': indolori.

Examples

"Il dentista promise che la procedura sarebbe indolore."

Natural Translation

The dentist promised that the procedure would be painless.
