Origin: Latin incensum, from incendere (to burn).
Usage Note
Incenso refers to the aromatic resin or substance burned to produce fragrant smoke, used in religious ceremonies and meditation. It is one of the three gifts brought by the Magi in the Christian nativity (oro, incenso e mirra — gold, frankincense and myrrh). The verb incensare also means to flatter excessively.
