Usage Note
Immane is a literary and formal adjective meaning enormous in scale or terrible in nature: una tragedia immane ('a colossal tragedy'). It is not the same as umano (human) despite the visual similarity; the prefix im- here is intensive, not negative. In contemporary usage it often carries a connotation of horror or awe alongside sheer size.
