Usage Note
Gonfio describes physical swelling (a swollen ankle, inflated tyre) and figurative excess: gonfio d'orgoglio (puffed up with pride). It agrees fully: gonfia, gonfi, gonfie. The noun form is gonfiore (swelling). Note that gonfio can also mean a tyre or balloon is 'pumped up' — not necessarily abnormally so.
