fratellanza

brotherhood

noun frah-tel-LAHN-tsah Rare

Also means

fraternity

Usage Note

Fratellanza (f) expresses a sense of solidarity and kinship, not necessarily biological. It appears in political and humanist contexts — the French fraternité in the motto of the Revolution is often rendered as fratellanza. The masculine counterpart fratello means 'brother'. Do not confuse fratellanza with fraternità, which is closer to 'fraternity' as an institution.

Examples

"La fratellanza tra i popoli è un ideale universale."

Natural Translation

Brotherhood among peoples is a universal ideal.
