Usage Note

Foresta denotes a large, dense forest, particularly a wild or tropical one (la foresta amazzonica). For smaller or more managed woodland Italians often prefer bosco. Forestale (forest-related) and forestiero (foreigner, outsider) share the same root. The plural is regular: le foreste.
