folklore
folklore
noun fohl-KLOH-reh Rare
Origin: English loanword from folk 'people' + lore 'knowledge'
Usage Note
Folklore is an invariable masculine noun in Italian — il folklore (never la folklore). Its plural is the same as the singular (invariable) because it is a foreign borrowing. Colloquially it can describe something picturesque or quaint, sometimes with a mildly ironic tone: è tutto folklore ('it's all just local colour').
Examples
"Il folklore locale è ricco di leggende antiche."
Natural Translation
The local folklore is rich with ancient legends.
