Usage Note
Fan is an invariable loanword from English: it does not change in the plural (i fan, not i fans or i fani). It is grammatically masculine but can refer to any gender — lei è una fan accanita (she is a devoted fan). The native Italian equivalent tifoso is preferred in sports contexts, while fan dominates music and cinema.
Examples
"I fan hanno aspettato ore fuori dal teatro."
Natural Translation
The fans waited for hours outside the theatre.
