Origin: From modern Latin exponentialis, from exponere (to set out, expose).

Esponenziale is both a mathematical term (crescita esponenziale — exponential growth) and a common colloquial intensifier — Italians say è aumentato in modo esponenziale to mean 'it has grown enormously', even outside strictly mathematical contexts. It is a two-ending adjective (same form for masculine and feminine). The related noun is esponente (exponent).
