entrare

to enter, to go in

verb en-TRAH-reh Common

Origin: From Latin intrare (to enter).

Also means

to come in

Usage Note

Entrare takes essere as its auxiliary in compound tenses: sono entrato ('I entered'). The imperative entra! (informal) or entri! (formal) is used like English 'come in!' Entrare in contatto con means 'to get in touch with.' Do not confuse with andare dentro, which is more colloquial.

Examples

"Entra pure, la porta è aperta."

Natural Translation

Come right in, the door is open.
