verb deh-POR-reh Rare

Origin: From Latin deponere ('to put down').

Usage Note

Deporre has two main uses: to depose or remove from power (deporre un re = 'to depose a king') and to lay down (deporre le armi = 'to lay down arms'). It is a compound of porre ('to place') and follows its irregular conjugation: depongo, deponi, depone…; past participle deposto.
