Demonio refers to a demon or evil spirit; colloquially it describes a wildly energetic or mischievous person, especially a child: quel bambino è un demonio ('that child is a little devil'). The plural is demoni or demoni; the more literary form demonio has plural demoni. Diavolo is the more common everyday word for 'devil'.
