Cuccetta is used for the fold-down sleeping berths on Italian trains (prenotare una cuccetta) and for bunk beds on ships or in barracks. On trains, a cuccetta compartment typically has six berths (three per side); a vagone letto is the more comfortable private sleeping car. The plural is cuccette.
