Corrodere describes the gradual chemical or physical wearing away of a material, typically metal by rust or acid. It is also used figuratively: l'invidia lo corrode (envy is corroding him). It is an irregular second-conjugation verb; the past participle is corroso. The auxiliary in compound tenses is avere.
