clashing
Usage Note
Contrastante is the present participle of contrastare used as an adjective, so it is invariable for gender but adds -i in the plural (colori contrastanti). It describes things that stand in sharp opposition — colours, opinions, emotions. It differs from contraddittorio (contradictory), which implies logical inconsistency.
Examples
"I due colori contrastanti rendono il dipinto vivace."
Natural Translation
The two contrasting colours make the painting lively.
