Congruo is a formal adjective encountered mainly in legal, contractual, and administrative Italian, where it means adequate, fair, or proportionate — un congruo termine (an adequate period of time), un congruo compenso (fair remuneration). In everyday speech adeguato is almost always preferred. The feminine form is congrua; note that la congrua is also a legal noun for a clergyman's stipend.
