Chat is an invariable English loanword used for both the act of chatting online and the interface itself: aprire una chat, inviare un messaggio in chat. It is feminine in Italian (la chat, le chat). Do not confuse with chiacchierata (spoken chat). As a verb, Italians say chattare (informal).
