casa

house

noun KAH-zah Common

Origin: Latin casa, 'hut, cottage'

Also means

home

Usage Note

Casa means both the physical building and the concept of home. Andare a casa (to go home) drops the article, unlike andare alla scuola (to go to school). The expression a casa mia means 'at my place.' Do not confuse with cassa (cash register, crate) — the single-s vs double-s distinction is meaningful.

Examples

"Torno a casa alle sei di sera."

Natural Translation

I return home at six in the evening.
