camera

room

noun KAH-meh-rah Common

Origin: Latin camera (vaulted room), from Greek kamara (vault)

Also means

chamber

Usage Note

Camera most commonly means 'bedroom' (camera da letto) in everyday Italian, not just any room. A generic 'room' is stanza. Camera also names institutional chambers: Camera dei Deputati is the lower house of Parliament. Don't confuse with English 'camera' (photo device = macchina fotografica or fotocamera).

Examples

"La mia camera è al secondo piano."

Natural Translation

My room is on the second floor.
