Cardiopalmo (also written cardiopalma) is a medical and colloquial term for a racing or pounding heartbeat, often used dramatically: mi ha fatto venire il cardiopalmo ('it gave me heart palpitations'). It is a masculine noun; plural i cardiopalmi. In informal speech palpitazione is more common.
