cagare

to defecate

verb kah-GAH-reh Rare

Origin: From Latin cacare.

Usage Note

Cagare is a vulgar, taboo-register verb — the equivalent of 'to shit' in English. It appears in several colloquial idioms: non cagare nessuno (to ignore everyone, lit. 'not to give a damn about anyone') and mandare a cagare (to tell someone to get lost). Use with awareness of register; standard alternatives are defecare (formal) or andare in bagno (euphemistic).

Examples

"Il bambino ha imparato a cagare da solo."

Natural Translation

The child learned to use the toilet on his own.
