Origin: From Russian 'bol'shevik', from 'bol'she' (more/majority), referring to the majority faction of the Russian Social Democratic Party.

Usage Note

Bolscevico refers to the Bolshevik movement or its members — the Marxist-Leninist faction led by Lenin that seized power in Russia in 1917. As a noun, un bolscevico means a Bolshevik. In contemporary Italian it can also be used loosely (and often dismissively) to mean a hard-line communist. The plural is bolscevici.
