azzeccare

to hit on

verb ats-tsek-KAH-reh Rare

Also means

to get right

Usage Note

Azzeccare means to guess correctly, hit the nail on the head, or get something exactly right (hai azzeccato! = you got it!). It takes avere as its auxiliary. Informally it is used for picking the winning lottery number or predicting an outcome. Unlike indovinare (to guess), azzeccare implies hitting on the right answer with some skill or luck.

Examples
