assurdo
absurd; ridiculous
adjective ahs-SOOR-doh Less Common
Origin: Latin absurdus (out of tune, senseless)
Usage Note
Assurdo is also used as a noun — è un assurdo (it's an absurdity) — which is perfectly natural in Italian. The philosophical concept teatro dell'assurdo (theatre of the absurd) uses this form. As an adjective it follows the regular -o/-a/-i/-e pattern. In speech, assurdo! alone works as an exclamation meaning 'That's ridiculous!'
Examples
"È assurdo aspettare tre ore per un biglietto."
Natural Translation
It's absurd to wait three hours for a ticket.
