asciutto

dry

adjective ah-SHOOT-toh Rare

Also means

lean; curt

Usage Note

Asciutto covers physical dryness (il terreno è asciutto — the ground is dry) and a lean or spare quality (uno stile asciutto — a terse style). It is also used to describe a person's build: un uomo asciutto means a wiry, lean man. Do not confuse with secco, which overlaps but leans toward 'shrivelled' or abrupt.

Examples

"Il bucato è già asciutto."

Natural Translation

The laundry is already dry.
