Usage Note

Archetipo is used in literary criticism, psychology (especially Jungian), and philosophy to denote an original pattern or model. Carl Jung's concept of archetypes (archetipi in Italian) as universal unconscious symbols is widely discussed in Italian academic contexts. The stress falls on the antepenultimate syllable: ar-KE-ti-po.
