supplemento

supplement, surcharge

noun soop-pleh-MEN-toh Rare

Origin: From Latin supplementum, from supplere (to fill up).

Also means

supplement (magazine insert)

Usage Note

Supplemento covers both an additional charge (pagare un supplemento = to pay a surcharge, e.g. on a train) and an editorial supplement (il supplemento domenicale = the Sunday supplement). Do not confuse it with integratore (dietary supplement) or allegato (attachment). On Italian trains, a supplemento rapido is the high-speed surcharge.

Examples

"È necessario pagare un supplemento per il rapido."

Natural Translation
