suggestivo
evocative; picturesque
adjective sood-jes-TEE-voh Rare
Also means
atmospheric, striking
Usage Note
Suggestivo is a false friend: it does NOT mean 'suggestive' in the English sense of hinting at something improper. In Italian it means 'evocative, atmospheric, visually or emotionally striking' — un paesaggio suggestivo ('a breathtaking landscape'). The English sense of 'sexually suggestive' is expressed instead by allusivo or provocante. Learners must note this distinction to avoid embarrassing misuse.
Examples
"Il tramonto sul lago è molto suggestivo."
Natural Translation
The sunset over the lake is very evocative.
