Usage Note

Stelo refers to the slender stem of a flower or plant. By extension it appears in compounds: occhiali a stelo (glasses with a long bridge), lampada a stelo (a floor lamp). The plural is regular: steli. Do not confuse with gambo, which more often denotes the thick stalk of a vegetable.
