solidarietà
solidarity
noun soh-lee-dah-ryeh-TAH Less Common
Origin: From French solidarité, from Latin solidus, 'solid, whole'.
Usage Note
Solidarietà ends in an accented -à, so it is invariable in the plural — la solidarietà and le forme di solidarietà both remain solidarietà. This applies to all Italian nouns ending in a stressed vowel (città, università, libertà). The adjective solidale ('in solidarity with') is commonly paired with it.
Examples
"Il paese ha mostrato grande solidarietà."
Natural Translation
The country showed great solidarity.
