soli

alone (plural)

adjective SOH-lee Rare

Also means

only (plural)

Usage Note

Soli is the masculine plural form of the adjective solo (alone, only). The seed lists it as an adverb, but it functions as an adjective agreeing with a plural noun (siamo soli, we are alone; i soli superstiti, the only survivors). As a noun i soli can also poetically mean 'the suns'. Do not confuse with the adverb solo (only), which is invariable.

Examples

"Erano rimasti soli in casa quella sera."

Natural Translation

They had been left alone at home that evening.
