Slitta is the standard Italian word for a sled or sleigh, whether pulled by animals (la slitta di Babbo Natale, Santa's sleigh) or used for snow sport. The plural is regular: le slitte. In mechanics, slitta also denotes a sliding carriage or rail (slitta di un tornio, lathe carriage).
