scettico
skeptical
adjective SKET-tee-koh Rare
Origin: Greek skeptikos (skeptesthai, to examine)
Usage Note
Scettico follows regular -o/-a/-i/-e agreement. It is a false friend in a subtle way: the Italian word is somewhat more neutral than a dismissive English 'skeptical' — sono scettico simply means 'I have doubts'. The noun form is lo scettico (a skeptic) and the abstract noun is lo scetticismo.
Examples
"Sono scettico sulle sue promesse."
Natural Translation
I am skeptical about his promises.
