risuonare

to resound

verb ree-zwoh-NAH-reh Rare

Also means

to echo

Usage Note

Risuonare takes essere as its auxiliary when used intransitively to describe sound filling a space: la sala è risuonata di applausi ('the hall resounded with applause'). When used transitively (rare), it takes avere. The prefix ri- adds the sense of 'again' or 'all around'. The simpler suonare means 'to sound / to play an instrument'.

Examples

"Le note risuonano ancora nella mia testa."

Natural Translation

The notes still resound in my head.

Literal Translation

The notes resound still in my head.
