rispondere
to answer
verb ree-SPON-deh-reh Common
Origin: From Latin respondere (to respond, pledge in return).
Also means
to respond
Usage Note
Rispondere takes avere as its auxiliary (ho risposto) and is followed by the preposition a: rispondere a una domanda ('to answer a question'), rispondere a qualcuno ('to answer someone'). The past participle risposto is irregular. Do not confuse with responsabile, which is an adjective meaning 'responsible', not 'responsive'.
Examples
"Non ha ancora risposto alla mia email."
Natural Translation
He hasn't answered my email yet.
