riporre

to put away

verb ree-POR-reh Rare

Origin: Latin reponere (to put back).

Also means

to place (trust)

Usage Note

Riporre is an irregular verb conjugated like porre: ripongo, riponi, ripone… It means to put something back in its place (riporre un libro nello scaffale) and figuratively to invest or place trust (riporre fiducia in qualcuno). Compound tenses take avere (ha riposto). The past participle is riposto, not riporto — a common error.

Examples

"Ha riposto i libri nello scaffale."

Natural Translation

She put the books back on the shelf.
