Usage Note
Regina is the feminine counterpart of re (king). It is used for royalty (la regina Elisabetta), in chess (la regina = the queen piece), and figuratively (la regina delle nevi = the snow queen). The plural regine is regular. In Italian card games, la donna or la regina is the queen card depending on the deck.
