rapportare

to relate; to compare; to report

verb rahp-por-TAH-reh Rare

Usage Note

Rapportare means to put something in relation to something else (rapportare i dati alla media = 'to compare the data against the average') or, reflexively, to relate to people (rapportarsi bene con i colleghi = 'to get on well with colleagues'). It takes avere as auxiliary in the non-reflexive form. Do not confuse with riportare (to report, to bring back) even though both can be translated as 'to report' in some contexts.

Examples

"È difficile rapportarsi con persone aggressive."

Natural Translation

It is difficult to relate to aggressive people.

Literal Translation

It-is difficult to-relate-oneself with people aggressive.
